After an unexpected turn of events as beverage buyer for a grocery chain, Jim Meyers decided to turn his dream of owning a unique, bargain-oriented wine shop into a reality. In 1999, he opened Wine Thieves in Lafayette with long-time friend and late business partner, Bennett Burke. From 2004 to 2013, Rod Santos was also part of the gang, but has since hung his wine thieves hat and currently resides in the Napa Valley. Today, Jim is the sole owner at his wine shop and although a lot has changed nearly 20 years later, Jim's dream has remained the same.

Over the years, Wine Thieves has carved out a quaint, personable niche that customers crave one that separates them from the detached atmosphere of larger grocery chains. Jim admits, "I love it when I am helping someone out to their car with wine and I see bags full of groceries from Safeway, Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Yet, they made a conscious decision to come to Wine Thieves for their wine. It tells me we must be doing something right. That's what excites me, I get goose bumps just thinking about it".
